Douglas Myers was educated at Kings College Auckland, Cambridge University where he obtained a BA, and the Harvard Business School. Mr Myers has worked in England for Allied Breweries Limited and spent six months with Spencecliff Corporation, Honolulu. He returned to New Zealand in 1965 and became Managing Director of the Myers family company, The Campbell and Ehrenfried Co. Ltd. (C & E). In 1970 Mr Myers bought 100% control of C & E. In 1971 New Zealand Wines & Spirits Ltd (NZWS) was formed with equal shareholding between Lion Breweries Ltd and C & E which was managed by NZWS with Douglas Myers as NZWS's Managing Director. NZWS became the largest integrated wine and spirit manufacturer, retailer, importer/exporter in Australasia. In December 1982 Douglas Myers became Managing Director of Lion Breweries Ltd. Douglas Myers' shareholding in Lion Corporation Ltd (formerly Lion Breweries Ltd) was increased to over 30% in 1985. In 1988 Lion Corporation Ltd merged with L.D. Nathan & Co Ltd to form Lion Nathan Ltd. Mr Myers became Chief Executive Officer of the merged company.

In January 1991 Mr Myers became Chairman of the New Zealand Business Roundtable, and in that year he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to business management.

Bob Day is Managing Director of Homestead Award Winning Homes, South Australia's largest homebuilder. Mr Day was educated at the Gilles Plains State High School and The University of South Australia where he studied Applied Chemistry. His early career saw him working as a Science Technician in a State Government research laboratory. In 1975 Mr Day left the Public Service and began working in the building industry as a plumber. He attended night school and gained his Plumber's ticket and General Builder's Licence. He also took time out to learn to fly and gained his unrestricted Pilot's Licence in 1980. In 1983 Bob registered `Homestead Constructions' which later became Homestead Award Winning Homes and built his first display home at Salisbury in Adelaide's northern suburbs. By 1987 Mr Day entered the land development business and is now one of the State's largest land developers. He is Vice President of the Housing Industry Association, Chairman of the HIA Housing Development Board, Chairman of the Housing The Homeless Council. He is actively involved in community support programs and sponsors over 70 different sporting clubs, charities, service clubs, schools and individuals. In 1991 Mr Day was named Westpac Young Executive of the Year.

Ray Evans was educated at Melbourne High School and The University of Melbourne. He graduated in Electrical Engineering (1960), Mechanical Engineering (1961) and later M.Eng.Sc. (1975). He worked in the State Electricity Commission of Victoria as a graduate engineer 1961-68 and then jointed the Gordon Institute of Technology as Lecturer in Electrical Engineering. In 1976 he joined Deakin University as Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and became Deputy Dean in 1980. He resigned in 1982 to join Western Mining Corporation as Executive Officer. In 1971 he was a founding sponsor of the Australian Council for Educational Standards, and foundation editor (1973-75) of that organisation's journal `ACES Review'. Since joining Western Mining Corporation in 1982 he has worked as personal assistant to Hugh M Morgan, AO (Managing Director of Western Mining Corporation). He has advised on issues affecting the Australian mining industry particularly and business generally. Of special concern have been the Aboriginal Land Rights movement, the Environmentalist Movement and on the economic debates affecting the industry, such as protection and privatisation. He is Founder and President of The H R Nicholls Society, an Australian society dedicated to the cause of labour market reform. He is a Director of Quadrant Publishing Company. He became a member of The Mont Pelerin Society in 1989. Mr Evans has published widely.

Professor Macdonald (Mac) Boot; 1965 B.Sc (Econ.) London Honours 2A in Economic and Social History, 1979 PhD. Hull, Thesis Title The Commercial Crisis of 1847. Professor Boot's fields of Research Interest are history and development of banking and monetary policy and institutions in Britain and Australia. Australian economic problems in the 1970s and 1980s. History of wages and human capital formation in Britain and Australia.

Forbes Ireland obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Tasmania. He is the President of the Australian Human Resources (Tasmanian Region), President of the Hobart Toastmasters Club, member of the Industrial Relations Society of Tasmania and is a Director of the Hobart Rotary Club. In 1991 Mr Ireland joined, as a Director, ABC-PACT (Management and Training Consultants), a Tasmanian business based in Hobart and Launceston. He is a Management Consultant specialising in Industrial Relations and Training. Mr Ireland has worked in the people management field for 23 years in both the public and private sectors. He left the position of Assistant Director (Personnel Management) with the State Health Department in 1989 to set up his own consulting firm. He has been actively involved behind the scenes in the recent changes to the Tasmanian Industrial Relations legislation and sees an important role for local consultants in workplace reform.

Eric Abetz, BA (Tas), LL.B (Tas); Barrister and Solicitor, President, Tasmanian Division Liberal Party of Australia. Mr Abetz was educated at Taroona High School, Hobart Matric College, University of Tasmania, partner, Abetz Curtis and Docking, admitted practitioner of Supreme Court of Tasmania 1983, High Court of Australia 1986, Commissioner, Supreme Court of Tasmania since 1987. Mr Abetz is Deputy Chairman Association of Christian Parent Controlled Schools; Hon. Chairman Legal Adviser to RSPCA (Tas), Assn. of Christian Homes for the Aged Inc., Jireh House (women's shelter).

Michael Moore B.Comm (Melbourne) 1958. Mr Moore's principal interests have been in the small business area. Up to 1985 Mr Moore was involved with developing the production of broiler chicks and the establishment of Australia's first computer controlled hatchery at Pakenham. Mr Moore's interests included development of the Turoa Skifield on Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand. He was also involved with the merger of Statewide Building Society and RESI and the emergence of the Bank of Melbourne. Mr Moore has served as Councillor 1975-84 with Pakenham Shire Council, Councillor Central Award 1988-91 with Melbourne City Council and has held appointments with various organizations connected with rural Australia, latterly with the Melbourne City Chamber of Commerce in developing a proposal for the reform of the Melbourne City Council to become a central business district council. Mr Moore is currently Chairman Finance Committee Geelong Independent Rural Education College, Vice Chairman Pakenham Racing Club and Council Member of Melbourne City Chamber of Commerce.

John Hyde was educated at Dalwallinu State School and Hale School, Western Australia. He won and held the Moore seat in the Federal Parliament for the Liberals from 1974 until defeated in 1983. He was one of three MPs who formed `the Dries'. He is presently Executive Director of the Institute of Public Affairs which is dedicated to encouraging understanding of the free society and free enterprise. He writes a weekly column in The Australian.

Peter Costello, MP is Shadow Minister for Corporate Law Reform and Consumer Affairs. He was elected to the House of Representatives for the seat of Higgins, Victoria, in March 1990. He joined the Liberal Party in 1980. Before entering Parliament he was a solicitor 1981-1984, a member of the Victorian Bar 1984-1990 and a part time tutor Law and Economics/Politics Faculty, Monash University 1984-1986. As a barrister he practised in the fields of commercial, taxation, industrial relations and anti-discrimination law. He holds B.A. and LL.B. (Hons) degrees.

Richard R S Tracey, QC 1969 LL.B. (Hons) University of Melbourne, 1974 LL.M. University of Melbourne and 1979 LL.M. University of Illinios. He was admitted to the Bar Australian Capital Territory January 1975, Victoria May 1975 and New South Wales June 1975. He is Signing of Roll of Counsel New South Wales 1975 and Victoria 1982. In 1970-72 Mr Tracey was Associate to The Hon. Sir Richard Eggleston, Judge, Commonwealth Industrial Court; President, Trade Practices Tribunal. 1972 Tutor, Law School, University of Melbourne; 1973 Senior Tutor Law School, University of Melbourne; 1973-74 Teaching Fellow Law School University of Illinios. 1975-79 he was lecturer Law School, University Melbourne in the subjects of Constitutional and Administrative Law, and Industrial Law. 1977-80 he was Sub-Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Melbourne and in 1979-87 he was Senior Lecturer, Law School, University of Melbourne. Mr Tracey became Queen's Counsel Victoria in 1991. Mr Tracey has published widely on many aspects of law.

John Dawson was educated at Dandenong High School, Melbourne University, was founder Seymour Meat Processing Co-op. He is a member of the Victorian Meatwork Federation Industrial Association (formerly Victorian Farmers & Graziers Employers Association). Mr Dawson is a life member of the Law Institute Victoria 1979, former Lecturer Professional Conduct Cl Legal Education Law Course.

Chris Oldfield holds a Diploma of Arts (Sociology). Mr Oldfield has been employed with Broken Hill Peko Limited Group for ten years. His current position is Public Affairs Manager Associated Pulp & Paper Mills and has held many positions such as Public Affairs Manager East Gippsland Pulp & Paper Development, Employee Relations Manager Wesley Vale Export Pulp Mill Project, Personnel Manager APPM Paper Division and Asst. Manager-Personnel & Industrial Relations Electrolytic Zinc Industries of Australasia (EZ).

Tony Thomas has 33 years experience in reporting. He is an associate editor with BRW and has been a writer with the magazine since it started in 1981. He has a general brief to cover any area including business, finance, manufacturing, trade, etc. He was economics writer for `The Age' in the Canberra Press Gallery from 1971-79. He has an economics degree (Australian National University) and a Masters degree in literature (University of Western Australia).
